Abstract

Background Shallot is a medical plant which have potential as a drug. This research aims to obtain data and information on the toxicity of ethanol extract of skin from the shallot to larvae of Artemia salina Leach, and to determine the LC50 value using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method. Method The extraction method used is maceration method using ethanol as the solvent. This type of research is an experimental which uses quantitative methods with using shrimp larvae that placed in a series of test solution of varied concentration. Results Observation were made after 24 hours to see mortality and then data analysis using probit analysis. This BSLT test showed that the ethanol extract of skin from the shallot had a toxicity of LC50 = 220.29 ppm.
