Abstract

in globalization. Since the economic crisis started in 1997, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono outlined economic challenges and opportunities for Indonesia. They are significant source of finances to develop the economy for the next 15 years, supplying the ever-increasing need for electricity, the infrastructure sector, increasing purchasing power, and strong cooperation between businessmen and the government. Today, Uzbekistan has also entered into the new phase of economic reforms. The major goals of these reforms are the provision of deep structural transformations in the economy and primarily, in such areas as strengthening national currency and liberalizing foreign trade. The program of radical denationalization and privatization of enterprises is aimed at priority development of private ownership and sharp reduction of the presence of state in the economy. Special attention is attached to accelerated growth of SME, private entrepreneurship, increasing its role in the structure of the economy, development of banking and finance sectors (Karimov, 2011). Globalization, which is defined as a multidimensional phenomenon, does not only touch political, economic, social and cultural spheres of any society but also reshapes the traditional way of studying the social world and human nature (Robinson, 2005). Globalization has been here coloring our daily life. Its potential impacts-through increasing social, cultural, economic and political interconnectedness arising from the phenomenon-on nation economic, social, cultural, political, and character development, needs special attentions. In the beginning, globalization is expected to increase the welfare of the world as a whole. However, by time it was found that expected welfare increase was not realized for the poor people and less developed countries. It, furthermore, increased the inequality of incomes distribution on the world population (Alkapler, 2008). On the other hand, globalization is assumed to break down borders in markets, political structures and as well as in cultural interaction, resulting in global interdependence and a diminishing of local control. These resulted in the ability of capital and services to act freely globally, the political basis remains local. Those countries which have the ability to cope with this “new era” by moving from local capitalism to being a host for multinational capital – attracting foreign direct investment into a country with liberalized markets and reformed financial and legal structures, characterized by good governance, globalization provides a space for strong economic growth (van Zyl, 2001). We understand that globalization is a prismatic phenomenon. It is a complex phenomenon, which encompasses a great variety of tendencies and trends in the economic, social and cultural spheres. Accordingly, it should be looked at in all its manifestations and from various angles. Indonesia and Uzbekistan economy and management would be interesting to review and discuss. Initiated by the cooperation between Universitas Gunadarma in Jakarta Indonesia and Branch of Russian Economic University after G.V. Plekhanov in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, the first joint international conference is organized in Jakarta in 2011. The conference is annual event which is organized by the two universities alternately in Jakarta Indonesia and Tashkent Uzbekistan. Following the success of two sequences Uzbek-Indonesian Joint International Conferences, we are delighted to announce the third Uzbek-Indonesian Joint International on Economics and Management toward Nation Character Development
