Abstract

iodiesel is a liquid fuel that is similar to diesel oil with combustion properties, but basically free from sulfur, making it a cleaner fuel than diesel oil. Preparation of Mg (OH)2 / γ-Al2O3 catalyst using wet impregnation method and catalyst characterization with XRD and SEM. The method used in this study was transesterification of ethanol and palm oil at a temperature of 60°C with a reactant ratio of 1: 2. The amount of catalyst used for the reaction was 0.5%, 1.5%, 2.5%, 3.5 %, and 4.5% with the reaction time used is 2 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours and 8 hours. Transesterification products are left to stand for 24 hours to replace glycerol and Biodiesel without washing. The best results in the study were carried out at a 3.5% catalyst concentration at 8 hours reaction time.
