Abstrak
The Effectiveness of Investigation
of Criminal Defamation Through Social Media (supervised by Hambali
Thalib and Nurul Qamar).
This research was conducted with the aims of: (1) Knowing and
Analyzing the Effectiveness of Criminal Defamation Investigations Through
Social Media at the Makassar Polrestabes: (2) Knowing and Analyzing
What Factors Affect the Investigation of Criminal Defamation Through
Social Media at the Makassar Polrestabes .
This research is kind of empirical research and was carried out in
Makassar City and its place at the Makassar Police Station and the
respondents were investigators from Makassar Police Station.
Based on research conducted found that: (1) The process of
investigating the crime of defamation through social media at the
Makassar Polrestabes has not been effectively implemented (2) the
factors that influence the investigation of the crime of defamation, namely
legal substance factors, legal structure factors, and other factors
Community Legal Culture, Facilities and Infrastructure Factors, Community
Legal Awareness Factors.
Based on this research, the results obtained are that the
effectiveness of investigating criminal acts of defamation through social
media has not been fully effective, this is because evidence in cases of
criminal acts of defamation through social media is stored in the form of
electronic documents which causes the evidence to be very vulnerable to
being erased, causing the investigators to have difficulty in finding the
evidence. The factors that influence the investigation of the crime of
defamation through social media at the Makassar Polrestabes such as
facilities and infrastructure that require sophisticated facilities in revealing
the identity of the perpetrators of defamation, so that in this case an
important role is needed such as law enforcement personnel, good
organization from law enforcement, adequate equipment, and sufficient
finances.
Research Recommendations: (1) Advise law enforcers to provide
more enlightenment in the form of higher quality education so that social
media users increase awareness to use social media wisely: (2) Police
leadership should optimize the provision of facilities and infrastructure in
order to improve effectiveness of criminal defamation investigations.
